15,892 students from 106 and schools in Puntland have today commenced a five-day long school leave examinations.
The President of Puntland, Said Abdullahi Deni, opened the first day of the exams at Gambol Secondary school together with The Minister of Education in Puntland. The President congratulates the students and called them to be vigilant on acts that sabotage the fairness of the exams.
The exams start following a fall out between the State Education Ministry and the Federal Government who threatened students sitting for exams in Puntland will not receive a completion certificate from the federal government unless they partake national examination organised by the federal government.
However, the national exams by the federal government were cancelled after exam papers were leaked to the students and circulated on social media.

Thousands of people in Puntland has praised the strength of the education system in the region and organisers of the exams. Many took to social media to praise the government and taking success.
Many circulated pictures of the vehicles transporting exam invigilators crossing seasonal rivers flooded by the Gu’ rainy which is pouring in many parts of the region.
On Twitter, many circulated the story of Samsam, who gave birth three days before the exam and was at risk to miss out exams. the government sent invigilator to her home and allowed her to do the exam at home.
Samsam is one of 15,000 students sitting for the Secondary school leave exams today. She prepared for the exams while pregnant and gave birth a healthy baby three days ago, the government sent an invigilator to her home so will be able to do the exams! #PUNTEXAM2019 pic.twitter.com/OuVFluMm0C
