During this week, 184 Somali refugees were assisted to return to Somalia, under UNHCR’s voluntary repatriation programme United Nations Refugee agency says.
Since the process started in December 2014, 79,854 refugees have been assisted to return in dignity and safety. Dadaab currently has 3 refugee camps with a total of 211,640 asylum seekers and refugees. Somali refugees constitute 96% of the population. Under the Tripartite agreement between Kenya, Somalia and UNHCR, refugees were assisted to return to Somalia on a voluntary basis.
Dadaab refugee camp was the largest refugee camp in the world and hosted more than half a million refugees majority of them from Somalia.
