As a result of heavy rains over the past three days in Puntland, the road links Garowe to the main port of Bossaso, says deputy head of Puntland Highways Authorities, Abdirzak Mohamed Hayir.
The flood damages a bridge near Haji Kheir village. the main road is vital to movement within Puntland and Somalia and the movement has been on standstill since Friday.
” The government is assessing the damage caused by the flood which as we have learnt from the visit is hugely damaged,” Abdirzak said.
Before the rains, there have been fears of drought in Puntland. Puntland, as well as other regions in northern Somalia, are borne to droughts and water shortage but with rains now the fears of drought have been averted.
However, the government have set up an emergency response to the effects of the floods. There are reports that pastoralists families and their livestock have been washed away by the floods,
