Nine people from South West and Hirshabelle States in Southern Somalia have been massacred in Galmudug adminsitred South Galkayo, locals have reported.
The victims who reportedly operate small businesses in the area were accused of the assassination of a security Officer named Ali Dhiif who many believe was assassinated by Alshabaab although they have not claimed the responsibility.
An eyewitness in south Galkayo has told GM that following the assassination of Mr Ali Dhiif, a group of soldiers attacked an area which is popular with communities from Hirshabelle and South West and then carried out the summary shooting, killing 10 people.
” They believe the attackers who killed Mr Ali Dhiif were from these two regions,” the eyewitness who sought his name not to be published has told GM.
Many Alshabaab operatives who carry out assassinations in Somalia are believed to be from Hirshabelle and South West.
The administration in Galmudug has yet to issue a statement on the killings.
