Somali telecommunication company Hormuud accuses Kenya Defense Forces unlawful destruction to one of its telecommunication mast in southern Somalia.
The company said in a press statement that over 4,000 people were affected by the destruction of the mast and that services like telephones and mobile money services are not currently working in some parts of Gedo.
” For the 12th time in less than two years, Kenyan troops have detonated one of our telecommunication masts in Aws Kurun in Gedo region of Jubbaland State of Somalia. The [latest] attack took place around mif night 22nd of August, 2109.” read a statement from Hormuud Telecom, the largest telephone company in southern Somalia.
The destruction has cut off over 4,0000 people from the rest of the country, and put the economic activities on hold due to disruption in EVC Plus service,[ and essential service for business transaction in Southern Somalia].
Kenya Defense Forces invaded Somalia in 2011 to oust Alshabaab from the border between Somalia and Kenya and joined Amisom troops after they captured Kismayo a port town in southern in Somalia. And ever since, they have been accused of meddling, being the centre of unlawful charcoal trading and killing innocent herders in Gedo region.
